Measuring climate action: 360 CARLA visits Vaisala with Photonics Finland

July 25th, 2026

On 24 April, Photonics Finland organized a 360 CARLA industry visit to Vaisala, bringing together students and early-stage researchers for a hands-on introduction to industrial measurement technologies and their role in addressing global challenges.

The day began with a roundtable introduction, where participants and Vaisala representatives shared their roles, backgrounds, and expertise. This exchange set the tone for an open and interdisciplinary dialogue throughout the visit.

A central part of the programme was the company presentation on “Measurements for Climate Action,” delivered by Minttu Tuononen and Ville-Markus Korpijärvi. The session highlighted Vaisala’s work in measurement technologies and their applications in climate-related solutions, while also providing insight into the diverse competencies and team structures within the company.

Participants also visited Vaisala’s measurement and sensor manufacturing facilities. The sensor factory tour, guided by Ulla Bogdanoff, offered a detailed view into advanced sensor fabrication and the precision processes behind high-performance measurement systems.

The visit concluded with a networking lunch, creating space for further discussion and informal exchange between experts, students, researchers, and industry professionals.

The activity is part of CARLA Hub’s broader effort to strengthen connections between academia and industry and to support the development of future talent in photonics and enabling technologies.
