About QSENSATO

QSENSATO s.r.l. is an Italian innovative startup focused on developing and commercializing integrated vapor cells for the quantum sensing and metrology applications. By leveraging patented femtosecond laser-written vapor cells (LWVCs) and integrating them with photonic structures, QSENSATO s.r.l. aims to deliver unparalleled sensitivity and size reduction in its products for industries requiring enhanced robustness and durability, such as space, defense, remote sensing, and automotive as well as in biomedical and lab-on-chip applications. The company is an academic spinoff accredited by the University of Bari, Italy and an emerging industry player in Europe.

Internship Description Summary

As a Research Intern who will be part of our technology team, the candidate will play a critical role in the design and rapid prototyping of laser-written vapor cells (LWVCs) and integration with photonic structures for our atomic-photonic chip technology. The candidate will work closely with a team including prototyping and project manager and an R&D Scientist to develop prototype integrated vapor cells.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Model, design, develop, and characterize custom-designed vapor cells
  • Develop component and system-level absorption spectroscopy and magneto-optical testing setups
  • Work with the prototyping team to transition/scale testing for performance evaluation
  • Contribute to the expansion of our IP portfolio through patent filing
  • Contribute to the writing of proposals for regional, national, and European grants

Education and work experience requirements

  • A Master in experimental photonics and/or atomic physics is required, in particular with hands-on experience with miniatrurized vapor cells and/or integrated photonic circuits and/or microfluidic devices.
  • Hands-on test and data analysis experience for systems that span both optical and atomic physics domains.
  • Design and characterization of miniaturized vapor cells and/or photonic integrated circuits
