About 360 Carla

360 CARLA is a competitive EU awarded project that seeks to bring the initial program created by the successful CARLA project to the next level by focusing on photonics market applications and providing underlying training, mentorship and experiences opportunities and thus helping students and researchers being readier for future photonics.

The 360 Carla Programs

What?

360 CARLA is a Horizon Europe project that creates round-up career development programs focused on photonics applications. We call these applications “verticals” and in 360 CARLA they are themed as:

  • Health: Biotech and Medical Photonics

  • Quantum Technologies and Communications

  • Energy, Environment and Sustainability

  • Manufacturing / Industry 4.0

These cohesive photonics career development programs will integrate career symposiums, trainings, innovation and entrepreneurship experiences, networking and mentorship opportunities.

Who?

360 CARLA is aiming at university students and early-stage researchers from photonics and non-photonics focused areas. Students and researchers from diverse STEM backgrounds are welcome to participate in the 360 CARLA activities, get to know more about the professional opportunities that the photonics careers landscape offers for the different applications, and get updated about the latest developments.

Participants will have the option to either attend all the activities within the relevant vertical, forming a cohesive, round-up career development program, or select specific activities to participate in. To build a comprehensive overview of one vertical, it is recommended that participants engage in all organized activities.

Why?

Our mission is to provide a round-up vision on the professional opportunities within the photonics ecosystem across the four different verticals. This involves not only providing information about different types of positions but also staying updated on photonics developments in these fields, offering relevant trainings, and experiencing how working in a specific photonics-related vertical looks like. We aim to foster growth, leadership, and innovation within the field of photonic sciences and make these experiences available to the participants.

How?

Through collaborative efforts involving stakeholders from academia, industry, and relevant organizations in the field of photonics, as well as partnerships with EU initiatives, 360 CARLA aspires to create comprehensive career development programs which are designed with the objective of:

  • Provide participants with a round-up vision on the photonics careers by verticals, immersing them in the fascinating world of photonics.

  • Provide participants with an overall understanding of the landscape of the photonics ecosystem focused on application verticals.

  • Increase their opportunities of networking and mentorships.

  • Provide experience in photonics innovation and entrepreneurship, and training tailored to each vertical.

  • Provide a database with internship opportunities in companies and institutions in Europe.

  • Build connections between European initiatives.

  • Leverage the synergies that exist within each of the verticals.

Activities

360 CARLA will organize 50 different activities which will take place in 11 countries across Europe. These include:

  • Vertical-themed Symposia in hybrid format

  • Training and workshops tailored to each vertical

  • Experiences in organizations i.e., day-long visits to companies and research centres

  • Opportunities for networking and mentorships

  • Creation of a dedicated database where EU internship opportunities will be disseminated
