360 CARLA Experience Bratislava

The International Laser Centre of SCSTI is delighted to invite you to the upcoming 360 CARLA Health: Experience Day with Lif(v)e Science, taking place in our research laboratories.

When: 19 May 2026 | 09:00 – 14:00 (CET Time)

Where: International Laser Centre of SCSTI, Ilkovičova 3, 841 05 Bratislava, Slovakia

Registrations: via this link before May 15th. The event is free, but spots are limited and allocated based on motivation.

About: We invite you to experience a unique day at the International Laser Centre together with one of our researchers. You can try for yourself how the results of research work can help improve our everyday lives. We also offer you the chance to observe live samples through our microscopes and gain insight into the secrets of processing the gathered images. You can choose to spend this day with:

Prof. Alžbeta Marček Chorvátová, DrSc., who will show you how can fluorescently-labelled microplastic particles be observed in the presence or in the absence of algae using a microscope and a spectrometer,

Assoc. prof. Monika Jerigová, who will give you a closer insight into the application of the Time-of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) in biochemistry and medicine, including the chemical characterization and 2D imaging of cells and tissues (e.g. lipids or drug distribution in tissues),

Dr. Beáta Čunderlíková, who will introduce you to the principles of photodynamic therapy and show you how fluorescence microscopy is used to test the effectiveness of photosensitizers under in vitro conditions,

Dr. Dušan Chorvát, with whom you will try to build a 3D printing setup using a laser and a projector, and you will observe how to use it to produce microscopic structures by photolithography,

Dr. Anton Mateašík, who will immerse you in the principles of capturing 3D structures of objects by laser microscopy,

Dr. Daniel Haško, who will introduce you to the work with an atomic force microscope (AFM) for studying biological samples and with a nanoindenter (NI) for measuring the nanomechanical properties of cells in their native environments.

🌐 Language of the event: English

Refreshments will be provided to participants.

So do not hesitate and register today to make sure you do not miss this opportunity to see different types of microscopy in action live!
