CARLA camp Graz

From Wednesday, September 21, to Friday, September 23, 2022, the University of Graz was all about careers in photonics. Students and researchers, experts from industry and entrepreneurship came together to discuss the latest advances in their field, engage in lively debates about the future of the job market for young talent, and share interesting stories about how their careers came to be.

Photonics Austria had the pleasure of hosting the Austrian edition of CARLA, where more than 80 participants from six different countries – undergraduate and master’s students, PhD students and postdocs – were able to meet more than 45 representatives from photonics organizations from all over Europe.

According to participants, the highlights of the camp included the technical presentations the hackathon organized in cooperation with EIT Health Austria, and the Lab Tours, which offered a behind-the-scenes look at the University of Graz’s optics labs.

CARLA Camp Graz significantly increased interest in a career in photonics – especially among participants with no prior knowledge or formal training in photonics – and was able to appeal to them across the STEM spectrum.
